When prospects ask why Shopify over WooCommerce, I point to one thing: Shopify gets there first.

Instagram Shops in 2020? Synced with Shopify first. OpenAI's Copilot shopping? Now powered by Shopify.

Shopify launched 150+ updates in Spring 2026 across storefronts, backend tools, marketing, and operations. I read through all of them so you don't have to. Here's what I found useful and actually stuck with.

🤖 AI Is the New Sales Channel

Shopify's positioning AI as a core sales channel, not just a feature. Here's what that means for you.

Agentic Storefronts: AI Search Optimization Is the New SEO

Remember when everyone obsessed over Google rankings? Now it's about being discoverable in AI agents and chat (Copilot, ChatGPT, upcoming integrations). Shopify's handling this through their Shopify Catalog, which automatically standardizes and enriches your product data.

With the new Agentic plan, even businesses not on Shopify can sync products to the Catalog and start selling in AI channels immediately. The Universal Commerce Protocol handles the heavy lifting, so you're not rebuilding checkout logic.

Sidekick Now Works With Your Favorite Apps

Sidekick, Shopify's AI assistant, just leveled up. It now integrates with:

Translation: Sidekick can now answer questions about your reviews, email performance, loyalty programs, and subscriptions without leaving the Shopify admin.

🔍 Online Search Just Got Smarter

AI-powered search is no longer a nice-to-have. Shopify's making it standard.

Your Storefront Search Now Understands You

If a customer types "cute leather bag" but searches for "brown tote", Shopify's improved storefront search now returns relevant results. It handles typos, vague phrasing, and intent matching better than before.

This upgrade applies to two places:

Shopify Core Search (built into every Shopify store) now uses AI to understand what customers actually mean, not just what they type. Typos, abbreviations, synonym searches all work better.

Shopify Search and Discovery app gives you more control with merchandising, personalization, and analytics so you can see exactly how customers search and optimize accordingly.

Either way: customers who find products faster convert faster. This is table stakes for any serious ecommerce store.

Two Apps Leveling Up Your Store: AI Simulation + Pricing Intelligence

We're keeping a close eye on two apps launching alongside Spring 2026:

SimGym (paid, but test free) simulates how shoppers move through your store with AI and gives you actionable recommendations to improve conversion. Think of it as having an AI UX consultant without the hourly rate. If you're testing a new theme or layout, this is worth 30 minutes of your time.

Shopify Smart Pricing (free) analyzes your sales data and inventory to suggest optimal pricing by product. Factors in seasonality, competition, and margin targets. For brands selling across multiple categories or markets, this is a quick win. Especially useful if you're pricing instinctively right now instead of strategically.

📍 In-Store: QR Codes + Targeted Discounts

If you have retail locations, Shopify's making promotions smarter.

Generate a QR code for any discount in the admin, share it with customers, and they scan it at checkout. One less code to type, fewer errors at the register, faster checkout.

Run separate promotions for your physical locations without them bleeding into online. Create a 20% off in-store promo while running a different deal on your website. This is table stakes for omnichannel brands.

💬 Marketing: WhatsApp Is Coming

WhatsApp marketing is rolling out to Shopify Messaging. This isn't live everywhere yet, but get ready: WhatsApp consent management is already live in customer profiles.

If you're managing email, SMS, and push notifications, WhatsApp is your next channel to test. Higher engagement rates than email, lower than SMS, but the audience is massive.

Start thinking about opt-in strategy now so you're not scrambling when it fully launches.

📊 Operations: Better Data, Better Decisions

Shopify overhauled analytics this release, and it's actually useful.

You can now filter and group reports by custom fields (metafields). If you tag orders by customer segment, product line, or campaign, you can finally segment your analytics around that data. Real talk: this is a game-changer for brands with complex operations.

Scatter plots, radar charts, bubble charts, sunbursts. Shopify gave analytics tools a visual upgrade. More importantly: set targets for key metrics (revenue, AOV, conversion rate) and visually track progress against them.

Daily insights also surface trends automatically, so you're not manually hunting through numbers.

Bottom Line

AI is moving from "nice to have" to "critical." Whether it's how customers discover you, how Sidekick speeds up your workflows, or how you analyze data, Shopify's Spring 2026 is all about giving you the tools to move faster.

What we're seeing is simple: efficiency wins. Teams using Sidekick to automate tasks, data-driven pricing instead of guessing, AI-powered search that converts faster. You do more in less time. Your team focuses on strategy, not busywork.

Moda is the AI design agent with taste

Moda's viral launch hit 4.4 million views in two days. Tens of thousands of professionals signed up. Startups, agencies, forward-thinking brands and top firms are now using Moda to create brand-aligned slides, ad creative, reports, social carousels and more.

Most AI tools tend to create what we call "AI slop": repetitions of the same colors, layouts and fonts. And when you try to fix it, you get stuck in a loop of re-prompting.

Moda is different. Drop in your website URL, and Moda learns your brand from the ground up: your colors, your fonts, your visual language. Then it helps you generate pro-quality slides, docs, and marketing assets.

The best part? Every layer is fully editable on a real canvas, and exports to powerpoint, PDF and more.
